Seeing Spots

Do you ever like an outfit so much that you make up excuses to leave the house so other people can see it, too? That was me with this spotty #OOTD. I had initially intended just to wear this at home on my day off, but once I had it on I knew I wanted to show it off.

So off I went, making a quick 1 mile drive off to the nearest shopping mall, where I made a beeline to the Forever 21. I mildly disliked Forever 21 throughout my entire adolescence, but I’ve been growing more fond of it lately. (Is that what inevitably happens when your 21st birthday comes around?) Either way, I ended up finding a ton of cute new clothes while I was out! I’m excited to showcase them here in the coming weeks.

DIY Beaded Sunglasses Tutorial

I’ve always had a thing for sunglasses. From sixth to eighth grade, I wore sunglasses on my head like a headband every day. (No seriously. Every day.) While I eventually gave that look up, my love for a cute pair of shades has always remained.

Something else I’ve always liked is crafting. Getting to be creative and use my talents to create cute DIYs is something I’ve always loved. But despite years of love for both a sunnies and crafting, I’ve never thought to put them together until now. I’m in love with the outcome, and today I’m going to share my process with you (and give you some ideas to use instead!) All my supplies I used will be linked, but feel free to get creative and use other things!

Here’s a fun fact before we begin: It took me so long to decide what phrase to put on my glasses. At the very last possible second (AKA: as I was arranging the beads to spell out something else) “LA VIE EN ROSE” hit me. I thought it was so perfect, because it’s a French idiom that directly translates to “life in pink,” or indirectly to the English idiom “to see life through rose-colored glasses,” or “having a positive outlook on life.” So perfect for rose gold glasses!

Supplies:

Tutorial:

  1. Preheat your hot glue gun. It will take about 5 minutes to heat up completely, so use that time to decide on what phrase you want to spell out. Depending on the size of your sunglasses, aim for no more than 7 letters on each side.
  2. Work from the outside in. I glued my flowers down first, and worked from there. When gluing down the letters on the right side, double check which letter you’re gluing down since you’ll be spelling backwards.
  3. When you get to a space in your phrase, put a single jewel or other embellishment in its place.
  4. When you run out of letters, continue putting jewels down until you get to the bridge of the nose.
  5. Once the inside is done, go back to the outside and finish putting jewels down either side.
  6. Let your new sunnies cool! Once the hot glue has totally dried, go back and get rid of all the hot glue “hairs.” (Don’t know what I’m referring to? You will once you get to this step.)
  7. Enjoy your newly decked out shades!

Shady Lady

I feel like Austin weather is more fickle than anywhere else I’ve ever been. I go to school in Norman, Oklahoma, which is supposed to be the “Severe Weather Capitol of the World.” But Austin keeps surprising me- I’ll wake up to clear, sunny skies, see torrential downpours and hail midday, and then see the blue skies make a return five minutes later. It’s crazy!

Huge fan of today’s #OOTD, even if it was only applicable for part of the day due to Mother Nature’s crazy mood swings. This is the perfect high-waisted denim skirt, and I’m so glad I added it to my repertoire recently. I love stripes and unique accents, so this shirt is a closet staple, too. Together, they’re such a cute combo for a summer day!

I don’t mind the rain, but I feel like it always starts right when I need to run an errand. This outfit held up, but I hope I get as lucky with my #OOTDs in the future!

Shades Stay On

I love my weekend days. I have my barre or pilates class in the morning to get my sweat on, but still have the rest of the day to be productive (or if I need the mental break, to do nothing.) I also love the weekend because this is when I get to be really creative with my wardrobe- I love fusing my professional wear with more casual pieces for a funky blend of #girlboss and easygoing.

When I get all dressed up, it’s an extra incentive to go out and get some errands done. (Or more likely, go shopping on a whim because I don’t actually have any pressing errands to run.) What’s the point of a cute outfit if the world doesn’t see it?

Back to work tomorrow, but luckily my dress code won’t affect my wardrobe too much! Maybe I’ll incorporate this leopard top into a casual chic ensemble soon.

A Big Re-Leaf

Yesterday, I had a 10 page research paper due for my US-Latin American Relations class. I usually don’t mind writing papers, especially when I get to choose the subject matter, but for some reason I put that monstrosity of a research paper off until 10 hours before the due date. Thanks to some study tunes, the focused vibe of the Bizzell Memorial Library, and lots of coffee, I got it done with an hour and a half to spare. It was a real relief, for sure.

Since I was still feeling strained from all the brain exertion I put forth yesterday, I made sure to keep to a more laid-back #OOTD today to help me recover. It was a little toasty in my jeans, but comfy nonetheless!

What’s In My Beach Bag

My Saint Augustine trip is coming closer and closer, and I’m so excited to spend my spring break lounging on the beach and forgetting about all the responsibilities from my real life for a few days. Being the obsessive over-planner that I am, I already have the contents of my beach bag mapped out, and today I’m going to share those with y’all!

  • The Beach Bag
    • This is an essential because it carries all your other items! I went with a canvas bag in off-white and black to keep it neutral. It zips up on top to keep sand from getting absolutely everywhere, and is big enough to store bigger things like a towel and speakers.
  • Sunglasses
    • I love sunglasses (always have) so naturally, I’m bringing a few pairs on this trip. A new pair of shades I ordered recently is this minimalist black and gold pair. I can’t wait to break them out on Sunday!
  • Beach Hat
    • I’ve never been much of a sunhat person, but when I saw this cute one in the Target dollar section, I couldn’t pass it up! They had a few assorted phrases, but since I love a good pun, I went with “beach please.” 😉
  • Sunscreen
    • Keeping with the sun-protection theme, one super important item in my bag is sunscreen with some serious SPF. I already get SPF through my morning moisturizer and primer, but when I’m going to be spending hours out by the ocean, I make sure I pack some sunscreen SPF 50+.
  • Flip-Flops
    • The sand can get sort of spicy, so I always make sure to bring a pair of cute flip-flops with me, even if I end up walking home barefoot in the end. My favorite pair are these lemon ones from Kate Spade.
  • Beach Read
    • The glare from the sun makes it hard for me to be on my phone, so I opt for a beach read instead. One of the books I’m bringing is called The Champagne Diet- look for a book review on it soon!

I’m so excited for my trip, I can’t believe it’s only 5 days away! The weather is gloomy today but writing this post put me in a much sunnier mood.

Dreaming of Spring (Break)

Even though today is the first day of March, in Norman the weather is still in full-on winter mode. We had an icy day that turned into an icy week, and today was the first day where driving around town seemed totally safe.

Desperate to forget the cold, I went shopping with my friend Jaycie for the spring break trip we’re both going on in two weeks. I got a ton of cute things, and I can’t wait to show y’all when the time comes!

Even though I was shopping for beach clothes, the current weather conditions dictated that I had to dress a little (or a lot) warmer than what we’ll experience in Saint Augustine. Wearing a lot of layers when you’re going different places and trying on clothes is kind of a pain, but I didn’t want to freeze, so I opted for a simple sweater/jeans/coat combo. I stuck with my Adidas sneakers so I wouldn’t have to deal with the hassle of taking boots on and off.

What’s In My Bag?

I’m a pretty simple person when it comes to what I need to constantly carry with me in my day-to-day life, especially when I’m just out running errands.

I use a black Kate Spade saddle bag, that I bought in 2016. I love my Kate Spade purses because they are such high quality and last forever when taken care of correctly. It’s the perfect size to hold all my necessities.

As for what I actually carry, my most important item is my Kate Spade keychain wallet. When I keep my essential wallet items attached to my car and house keys, it makes it impossible for me to leave anything important at home (drivers license, credit cards, etc.) especially since I don’t take my purse with me every day. On school days especially, I just grab my backpack and my keys, and I’m out the door.

I also like to carry sunglasses with me. I don’t need to drive with sunglasses on sunny days, but it never hurts (and adds a lot to my aesthetic most of the time.) I got the pair I’m using currently from Target, and I think they are so cute!

I don’t carry a makeup bag or anything like that with me when I go out, but I do typically have my two most important touch-up makeup items: concealer and lipgloss. Right now, I’m using Clinique powder concealer (I have normal-to-oily skin) and Victoria’s Secret lip gloss.

My final item I like to keep in my bag is a handful of mints. I hate the feeling of having bad breath, and much prefer mints to gum. Despite being so sugary, they’re relatively low-calorie, so I don’t feel guilty eating one to two (or sometimes three…)

And that’s all I usually keep on me for day-to-day errands! I adjust what I’m carrying based on if I’m traveling, going out with friends, etc., but these items are usually the staple.

I hope you enjoyed reading about what’s in my bag, and check back soon for new lifestyle posts from me!

It’s Always Sunny

Yesterday was literally such a good day! My mom came into town to watch my concert band concert and we were able to spend the afternoon together beforehand. I don’t get to go home much in the spring so I am so thankful when my parents take time out of their day to come to me.

I knew we would be doing some clothes shopping so I wanted to wear something that would be easy to get on and off as we went to different stores. The weather also got up to 50 degrees for the first time in a few days, so I wanted to give my legs a breather and not confine them to jeans for a day. This shirt is kinda short so I wasn’t sure how well it would stay tucked in my skirt, but it did really well and I ended up loving how this look turned out!

Red Velvet

Today’s #OOTD is really from yesterday, but I’m going to share it anyways!

Yesterday, I was heading to my sorority’s sisterhood retreat so I wanted to make sure I was comfy for the 2 hour car ride.

I love this red velvet sweatshirt because it’s so soft and cozy. I got it from Uptown Cheapskate and I think it’s meant to be a kid’s sweatshirt because it’s a size XL. (If it is actually adult sized, then frankly, I’m offended.) The black belt and jeans combo is a staple in my wardrobe that you’ll probably see pretty often. I wore my favorite black sunglasses on the ride down, too.

Jeans: Mid-Rise Rockstar 24/7 Jeans – Old Navy
Belt: Loop Belt – Target

Shoes: Advantage Sneaker – Adidas
