Trend Forecast: Corset Tops

I feel like I had been hunting for secondhand corset tops forever and finally found this one while shopping at Uptown Frisco a few weeks ago! I absolutely love the brown for fall and it pairs perfectly with my leopard skirt. Outfit made in thrifted heaven!

Even though the skirt has white in it as well, I chose to accessorize with black to give it more of a fall look. I feel like the gold accents on my accessories really pull everything together, especially my belt and shoes.

I’m going to have to get creative if I want to keep wearing this outfit once it gets cold- it’s not exactly winter weather-friendly! Luckily, if you’re just now hopping on the corset train you can keep wearing it through to spring with some creative layering. My next challenge for myself is to style the corset with a turtleneck underneath. I’m not going to let some cold weather cramp my style!

If you own a corset top (or two, or three) where did you get them from? I’m looking to expand my collection to include a black one or white one and I don’t know the best place to shop. Any recommendations are welcomed and appreciated!

Trend Forecast: Steve Madden’s Amulet Black Booties

I need to be honest with you all- I wasn’t a fan of booties until this summer. For some reason, I always felt like whatever bootie I put on made my legs look shorter, and for someone with legs that are already on the shorter side, that was less than ideal. But then over the summer I purchased these white booties, and that was it- I knew I was going to need to get my hands on some black booties ASAP to round out my shoe collection.

These black booties from Steve Madden were floating around my TikTok “For You Page” a lot over the summer, and eventually (once my final paycheck hit my bank account) I knew it was time to take the plunge. They are almost exact dupes of these Gucci booties, but without the $1100 price tag. As a college student, I love saving money wherever I can and being able to get the look for $1000 less was absolutely amazing!

I have several friends that have purchased these booties as well, so I know they’re going to be a really popular shoe choice for fall 2020. I chose to style them with a white button-up, black skirt, and gold chain belt to coordinate with the gold encasing the jewels on the boots. I think it’s so chic and the booties definitely add a little bit of an edge to this feminine outfit!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Headband: Puffy Black Headband – Target
Earrings: Gold Hoop Earrings (similar)
Shirt: White Button-Up Shirt (similar)
Belt: Layered Ancient Coin Chain Belt – Forever 21
Skirt: Pleated Black Skirt (similar)
Shoes: Amulet Black – Steve Madden

A word of warning about the Steve Madden booties- they hurt like a b!tch until you finally have them broken in. They literally wore holes into my calves the first time I wore them. I’m actually not sure if I’m breaking in the shoes or if the shoes are breaking in me- either way, I’m excited to finally have them worn in enough to wear without needing bandaids!

Mad For Plaid: An OOTD

You ever feel like dressing up “just because”? That was me this morning. No plans, no errands to run. I just felt like putting on a cute outfit and feeling good about myself. I snagged this Urban Outfitters romper one of my first days on the job at Uptown Cheapskate, and I’ve been looking for a reason to wear it ever since. As you can see, I eventually decided I don’t always need a reason to wear my favorite clothes. Simply wanting to is reason enough.

I wanted to keep this look pretty classic, so I decided to stick to the greyscale color scheme and accessorize with simple black accessories. I’m in love with the new bag I got from JW PEI and hope to add some more styles to my collection in the future. I feel like it added just the right amount of “extra” to my outfit!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Headband: Velvet Braided Headband – SHEIN
Romper: Plaid Romper – Urban Outfitters
Belt: Black Belt with Rectangle Buckle (similar)
Purse: The Envelope Crossbody – JW PEI
Shoes: Beella Ankle Strap Sandal – Madden Girl

For those of you who have been following along for a while, you may have noticed that this romper looks familiar to the dress I wore for my blog’s first anniversary shoot. I’m in love with plaid, so even though I recognized that I already had a similar item in my closet, I caved and bought this romper anyways. Do you have any prints or patterns that you’re drawn to over and over again? Let me know in the comments so I feel less alone!

Christmas OOTD and Recap

Merry Christmas, everyone! Due to my scheduling with Peach Bowl rehearsals, I had an unconventional Christmas experience and celebrated a day early this year. As of yesterday evening, I had completely unwrapped my gifts and mentally started preparing for the bowl trip. Christmas had already come and gone and it wasn’t even December 25!

Opening all your presents on Christmas Eve wasn’t nearly as weird as it sounds. It only vaguely feels like two days were combined into one, and now I’m ready to start getting ready for the bowl trip! I’ll spare you an entire haul, but some of my favorite gifts I got yesterday were:

  • A leopard-print fuzzy jacket
  • A custom calendar with my dog’s faces on it for every month
  • Icelandic chocolate (may or may not have eaten half the bar already)
  • Kate Spade socks
  • A liquid lipstick/liner set
  • An iPhone 11!

I won’t be setting up my iPhone 11 until after I get back from Atlanta, so when I was initially listing my favorite gifts I completely forgot about it. But I’m super excited to get it set up once I have more than a few hours to transfer all my stuff over and make sure it’s all working!

Beyond just opening gifts in the morning, we also went to church in the evening and then proceeded on to our tradition of celebrating Christmas Eve with my dad’s side of the family. They even helped me collect data for an upcoming blog post… stay tuned!

P.S. I actually had my sister take my #OOTD pics last night. It was very refreshing not to have to use a tripod- especially because I knew my neighbors across the street would be able to see us. Thanks, Macy!

City Girl Summer

I only have 3 weeks left in Austin, and honestly, that’s mind blowing. The summer seemed so long when I moved in in May, but now it’s basically over. I’m so thankful for my time here, and I hope I can make the most out of the rest of my time here! (As long as I can get over my unidentified illness… that’s actually the #1 priority right now.)

I don’t go into the heart of downtown much other than for work, but my friends were in town last weekend and we decided to spend a night out on 6th Street. We hit up P. Terry’s Burger Stand for dinner and were able to take some pics right as golden hour hit downtown. (Thankfully, because it’s providing some great #OOTD content, and I’m super glad this hot af look was able to be properly documented!)

SHOP THE LOOK:

Fanny Pack: Quilted Fanny Pack – Steve Madden
Dress: Short Leopard Dress – H&M
Shoes: Steve Madden Carrson Sandal

I’ve been looking for an excuse to wear this dress all summer (still in stock on H&M’s website for only $12.99!) and a GNO was the perfect excuse. Also, the fanny pack addition was definitely the move for a night of bar-hopping. It kept me delightfully hands-free, and I never had to worry about losing a purse!

I hope I recover from my unknown illness soon so I can keep sharing content with y’all over my last few weeks here. Lately, I’ve just been trying to take it easy and shake whatever this is. Hopefully I’ll be back to 100% soon!

P.S. The building I’m posing in front of is actually Frost Bank Tower, my favorite building in Austin’s skyline! I saw it in the reflection of another building and made my friends walk a block over with me so I could take photos with it. When I was little I colloquially referred to it as “the fish building,” and I still call it that now!

Wedding Szn

I already knew I loved weddings, but that idea was reaffirmed this weekend when I got to attend the wedding of my friends Kendall and Stephen. This was the first wedding I had ever attended that was for friends, so that made it extra special (and made me feel extra emo.) I’m gonna need more of my friends to get married STAT, because I might just have an obsession now. (Maybe I should consider a career of being a publicist slash blogger slash wedding planner?)

As this was my first wedding for me to attend in easily the last 7 years, I wasn’t really sure what I was going to wear. I brought some options back from Austin with me, but nothing felt right. So, on the morning of the 4 p.m. wedding, I was the first one in the door of my local TJ Maxx, frantically searching for a wedding outfit.

Luckily, I found this jumpsuit! I hadn’t considered a jumpsuit as an option before, but I’m super in love with this one. It’s extremely flattering and comfy (there was a lot of dancing in my future, so I knew I needed something with very little movement restriction.) I bought this purse to go with it at Marshall’s, and I’m in love with how the #OOTD turned out!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Jumpsuit: Faux Wrap Jumpsuit – Tiana B
Purse: Black Geometric Crossbody (similar)
Shoes: Steve Madden Carrson Sandal

Anyways, anyone getting married soon and want to add me to the guest list? I’ll buy you something moderately priced off of your registry and take cute boomerangs of your first dance, I promise!

Half In, Half Out

Something I famously tell people is that “I don’t half-ass anything,” but I might have made an exception for this look. I’ve seen a lot of this half tucked-in look all on Pinterest lately, and I wanted to give it a shot. I had only seen it with jeans, but I thought it could be super cute with a pair of high-waisted shorts, too!

The outcome? An outfit that’s light, airy, and perfect for a moderate summer day! I decided to keep the half-and-half theme going and tuck my hair behind my left ear, the opposite side than where I tucked my shirt it. It gives the whole ensemble some nice symmetry, and helps me show off my cute earrings!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Earrings: Tortoise Disc Post Earrings – Target
Shirt: White Button-Up (similar)
Shorts: Cotton Twill Shorts – H&M
Shoes: Zone Ankle Strap Sandal – Steve Madden

I’m interested in seeing how the half-in-half-out looks with a skirt. I plan on trying it out soon, so stay tuned in to the blog and my Instagram to see the outcome!

Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee

I worked at Old Navy last summer, and in case you can’t tell, I became a pretty big fan. I love their boyfriend tees, especially the striped ones. They’re comfy, casual, and can be worn so many different ways. (And honestly, my employee discount was a huge incentive to load up. That markdown was killer!)

I’ve worn them for almost a year now, and I probably need to go get more this summer from their new collection. #OOTDs like this are perfect for so many occasions, from class, to errands, to brunch! Tragically, Old Navy doesn’t carry this exact shirt anymore, but I’ve linked a similar one below.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Bandana: Black Bandana – Hobby Lobby
Top: Striped Yellow Shirt (similar)
Shorts: Cotton Twill Shorts – H&M
Shoes: Zone Ankle Strap Sandal – Steve Madden

What is your go-to look for hot summer days? I’m trying to incorporate some new casual pieces into my wardrobe, and I’m looking for inspiration!
