Cash Money

Today was the first day of my last weekend in Austin! I decided to spend my day going to some of the places I can’t find in Norman- and for me, that meant brunch at Tacodeli, and then shopping at H&M and Buffalo Exchange.

I spent more money than I meant to today ($170) but I walked away with 22 items, so I think it was a fair trade. I got so many cute things and I can’t wait to show them to y’all over the coming weeks!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Earrings: Tortoise Disc Post Earrings – Target
Purse: Kate Spade Saddle Bag (similar)
Shirt: Slim-Fit Fine-Gauge Rib-Knit Tee – Old Navy
Skirt: Green Mini Skirt – Divided by H&M
Shoes: Grand Court Sneaker – Adidas

If I’m being honest, I’m probably going to go get Tacodeli again tomorrow. I’m going to be devastated when I don’t have easy access to it anymore- the closest one to Norman is actually the one that just opened by my house in Frisco.

Stay tuned to see new items from my haul!

Back At It

It feels so great to be back! For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been trying to get over a bad case of bronchitis that seriously knocked me off my feet. I missed a week of work, since I could barely do more than browse Pinterest and binge Gossip Girl in bed. But after 14 days of sickness and 12 different medications, I finally found something that worked and I’m going to be back at my internship today.

Since this is my first time out of pajamas in a while, I knew I wanted to dress comfortably. (I have had ample time to brainstorm new outfit ideas while stuck in bed, but jumping straight from flannel to a denim mini skirt felt like a lot.) After some brief deliberation while standing in my closet this morning, I settled on a soft knit t-shirt dress and leggings for today’s #OOTD. Comfy and cute!

I only have 2 weeks left here in Austin, and I’m ready to finish up showing y’all the city before I move back to Norman in August. I’m glad my sickness will soon be a distant memory, because I still have some things I want to do!

City Girl Summer

I only have 3 weeks left in Austin, and honestly, that’s mind blowing. The summer seemed so long when I moved in in May, but now it’s basically over. I’m so thankful for my time here, and I hope I can make the most out of the rest of my time here! (As long as I can get over my unidentified illness… that’s actually the #1 priority right now.)

I don’t go into the heart of downtown much other than for work, but my friends were in town last weekend and we decided to spend a night out on 6th Street. We hit up P. Terry’s Burger Stand for dinner and were able to take some pics right as golden hour hit downtown. (Thankfully, because it’s providing some great #OOTD content, and I’m super glad this hot af look was able to be properly documented!)

SHOP THE LOOK:

Fanny Pack: Quilted Fanny Pack – Steve Madden
Dress: Short Leopard Dress – H&M
Shoes: Steve Madden Carrson Sandal

I’ve been looking for an excuse to wear this dress all summer (still in stock on H&M’s website for only $12.99!) and a GNO was the perfect excuse. Also, the fanny pack addition was definitely the move for a night of bar-hopping. It kept me delightfully hands-free, and I never had to worry about losing a purse!

I hope I recover from my unknown illness soon so I can keep sharing content with y’all over my last few weeks here. Lately, I’ve just been trying to take it easy and shake whatever this is. Hopefully I’ll be back to 100% soon!

P.S. The building I’m posing in front of is actually Frost Bank Tower, my favorite building in Austin’s skyline! I saw it in the reflection of another building and made my friends walk a block over with me so I could take photos with it. When I was little I colloquially referred to it as “the fish building,” and I still call it that now!

Seeing Spots

Do you ever like an outfit so much that you make up excuses to leave the house so other people can see it, too? That was me with this spotty #OOTD. I had initially intended just to wear this at home on my day off, but once I had it on I knew I wanted to show it off.

So off I went, making a quick 1 mile drive off to the nearest shopping mall, where I made a beeline to the Forever 21. I mildly disliked Forever 21 throughout my entire adolescence, but I’ve been growing more fond of it lately. (Is that what inevitably happens when your 21st birthday comes around?) Either way, I ended up finding a ton of cute new clothes while I was out! I’m excited to showcase them here in the coming weeks.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Can You Dig It?

This outfit was giving off major 70s vibes to me. Between the red and yellow striped shirt and the flare jeans, I definitely was feeling a little retro with this look. Separately, I don’t feel like either of the key pieces necessarily scream “seventies,” but together? I feel a little like Julie, the American Girl Doll.

Technically the shirt is meant to be more of a crop top, but I found it was just long enough to tuck into my most high-waisted pair of jeans. This was a work #OOTD, so I wasn’t about to risk wearing it as a crop top in the office!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Bandana: Black Bandana – Hobby Lobby
Top: Striped T-Shirt (similar)
Belt: Loop Belt – Target
Jeans: Flared Jeans (similar)
Shoes: Gold Wedge Sandals (similar)

Do you like to take inspiration from certain decades? Personally, I love the 70s and the 50s! And the 90s… Actually, what decade don’t I love from time-to-time?

Wedding Szn

I already knew I loved weddings, but that idea was reaffirmed this weekend when I got to attend the wedding of my friends Kendall and Stephen. This was the first wedding I had ever attended that was for friends, so that made it extra special (and made me feel extra emo.) I’m gonna need more of my friends to get married STAT, because I might just have an obsession now. (Maybe I should consider a career of being a publicist slash blogger slash wedding planner?)

As this was my first wedding for me to attend in easily the last 7 years, I wasn’t really sure what I was going to wear. I brought some options back from Austin with me, but nothing felt right. So, on the morning of the 4 p.m. wedding, I was the first one in the door of my local TJ Maxx, frantically searching for a wedding outfit.

Luckily, I found this jumpsuit! I hadn’t considered a jumpsuit as an option before, but I’m super in love with this one. It’s extremely flattering and comfy (there was a lot of dancing in my future, so I knew I needed something with very little movement restriction.) I bought this purse to go with it at Marshall’s, and I’m in love with how the #OOTD turned out!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Jumpsuit: Faux Wrap Jumpsuit – Tiana B
Purse: Black Geometric Crossbody (similar)
Shoes: Steve Madden Carrson Sandal

Anyways, anyone getting married soon and want to add me to the guest list? I’ll buy you something moderately priced off of your registry and take cute boomerangs of your first dance, I promise!

Need for Tweed

Who doesn’t love a good thrift store find? I always seem to find gems when I go thrifting (although maybe that’s because I have more of an eclectic style than others.)

My most recent thrift store treasure is this pink tweed blazer I found at Goodwill in Frisco! When I first came across it, I immediately knew that some people would find it absolutely horrendous (my sister even went so far as to tell me it looked Umbridge-esque), but I loved it. As I explained to my dad while we waited in the checkout line, “It slaps. Other people may think it’s ugly, but I think it goes hard, and that’s all that matters.”

I loved pairing the blazer in this #OOTD with a more casual skirt, shoes, and backpack purse. They helped me dress down the blazer for my casual-chic office dress code, but still keep the look tied together.

Bag: Backpack-Purse (similar)
Blazer: Pink Tweed Blazer (similar)
Top: Slim-Fit Fine-Gauge Rib-Knit Tee – Old Navy
Skirt: Lace-Up Skirt (similar)
Shoes: Advantage Sneaker – Adidas

Do y’all have any tips for thrifting? My experiences have always been hit-or-miss. That partially makes it fun, but I’m also searching for a method to the madness! If you have any tried-and-true thrifting tactics, share them in the comments! I would love to hear them.

Half In, Half Out

Something I famously tell people is that “I don’t half-ass anything,” but I might have made an exception for this look. I’ve seen a lot of this half tucked-in look all on Pinterest lately, and I wanted to give it a shot. I had only seen it with jeans, but I thought it could be super cute with a pair of high-waisted shorts, too!

The outcome? An outfit that’s light, airy, and perfect for a moderate summer day! I decided to keep the half-and-half theme going and tuck my hair behind my left ear, the opposite side than where I tucked my shirt it. It gives the whole ensemble some nice symmetry, and helps me show off my cute earrings!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Earrings: Tortoise Disc Post Earrings – Target
Shirt: White Button-Up (similar)
Shorts: Cotton Twill Shorts – H&M
Shoes: Zone Ankle Strap Sandal – Steve Madden

I’m interested in seeing how the half-in-half-out looks with a skirt. I plan on trying it out soon, so stay tuned in to the blog and my Instagram to see the outcome!

Good Vibes Only

Fun fact: this is actually the first bodysuit I’ve ever owned! They’re a trend I’ve been eyeing for a while- I tuck in basically everything I wear, so a bodysuit would actually make a lot of sense in most cases- but I never could find one that I felt fit me properly and looked good. Luckily, I found this one at Uptown Austin! It fits perfectly, and I think the reminder to have “good vibes” is so cute.

I wore this version of the #OOTD out to go run errands, but then changed into jeans to go see Toy Story 4 later in the evening. (Go see it if you haven’t already. It’s adorable!) I think I actually liked the jean look better, but the denim skirt version is cute, too. They definitely have two very different vibes going on. Maybe I’ll share the details of the jeans version in a later post!

SHOP THE LOOK:

Sunglasses: Cateye Sunglasses – Target
Top: Black Bodysuit (similar)
Skirt: Denim Mini Skirt (similar)
Shoes: Advantage Sneaker – Adidas

How do you wear bodysuits? Do you have any specific brands you like? I think I’m going to be fully embracing this trend, since it so closely aligns with my personal style, so I would love to hear your suggestions!

All About Embroidery

I’ve been super into embroidery lately. I went through a phase a few years ago where I was staunchly against it, no matter what form it was in. (This was during the phase where boho fashion was super in, so the embroidery that came along with that trend just wasn’t really my style.) I’ve been super digging the embroidery I’ve seen recently, though, and when I found this skirt at Uptown Cheapskate I knew I had to snag it!

I wasn’t really sure how to wear it for a while (it actually hung on its hanger with its tag still on up until this morning,) but I love this #OOTD for work or play! My office is pretty frosty, so I made sure to pair it with a denim jacket. (Not pictured, but it looks super cute to tie the jacket around your waist if you get hot, too!) Now that I got the ball rolling, I’m excited to pair this skirt with more options in the future.

Jacket: Freeborn Denim Jacket – Target
Shirt: Slim-Fit Fine-Gauge Rib-Knit Tee – Old Navy
Skirt: Black Floral Mini Skirt (similar)

I’ve been stocking up on some cute new clothing items, so expect some new #OOTDs soon! Check back soon to see what I bought.
