Celebrating Year Two: My Blog’s Second Anniversary

Today is officially two years since the launch of my blog! I have grown so much as a blogger and content creator over these past 730 days, and I wanted to celebrate with a super fun blog shoot to commemorate the occasion. I did a blog shoot with a number one balloon last year for my first anniversary, and I wanted to bring that back for year two!

This amazing white fringe dress has been sitting in my closet since the start of the pandemic, and I thought that my blog anniversary would be the perfect excuse to bring it out. February is frigid in Norman (and getting colder over the next week!) so I had to pair it with my favorite fluffy blue coat. While these are both statement pieces and could easily carry the outfit on their own, I thought they would be even more fun together. And I was right!

Cable Knit: Styling Sweater Vests

I’ve already talked about my love of the preppy style resurgence once on the blog, but today I’m focusing on a different preppy style trend: sweater vests! I made many trips to local thrift stores before finding one to add to my collection. I’ve found that they key to styling sweater vests is making sure they have v-neck neckline. I’m usually against v-necks, but they work so well with this style and adding a collared shirt underneath!

When styling your own sweater vest, you could also pair it with a pleated or flared skirt, but I chose to style mine with jeans since it was a crisp 38 degrees when doing this shoot. I also think the jeans make it so wearable and cute for day-to-day activities! To really play up the preppy vibe, I added a pearl choker and green marble hair clip.

Watermelon Sugar: Styling Complimentary Colors

If you were a pre-teen in the late 2000s to early 2010s, you probably remember the iconic color combination that was hot pink and lime green. It was almost unescapable- I feel like everything from clothing to PB Teen home décor was covered in those complimentary colors during that time period. But just because colors are complimentary, that is, colors that opposite of each other on the color circle, doesn’t mean they automatically go together. If you decide to pair complimentary colors together (especially pink and green), you have to be strategic. Otherwise, you’ll unintentionally look like your 2009 middle school self.

To correctly style complimentary colors, you should pick one color to be your main color and one to be your accent color. (For this outfit, I chose green as my main and pink as my accent.) Add some neutrals (mine is white) so the two colors don’t seem completely overwhelming. And whenever possible, don’t pair a neon color with anything other than a neutral. Since I chose light green and light pink, the colors seem less harsh and look more cohesive together.

With all that being said, feel free to be adventurous when pairing colors together! My recommendations are just that- recommendations- and are not the be-all and end-all of fashion color theory. Be creative, and have fun!

All Tied Up: An OOTD

It’s getting hot in Texas, so I’m always looking for easy-breezy outfits to choose on days I need to be out and about running errands. This is one of my new favs! The silky top is super lightweight and keeps me super cool, and the shorts are stretchy and comfortable. Paired with my wedge sandals that are meant to provide a comfortable walking experience, this outfit is perfect for the days that I’m on the go!

I always struggled with wearing tie-front shirts because I felt like my bra was always showing, but recently I saw a TikTok that showed how to tie the front around your bra to completely stop that from happening. A game-changer for sure!

Christmas OOTD and Recap

Merry Christmas, everyone! Due to my scheduling with Peach Bowl rehearsals, I had an unconventional Christmas experience and celebrated a day early this year. As of yesterday evening, I had completely unwrapped my gifts and mentally started preparing for the bowl trip. Christmas had already come and gone and it wasn’t even December 25!

Opening all your presents on Christmas Eve wasn’t nearly as weird as it sounds. It only vaguely feels like two days were combined into one, and now I’m ready to start getting ready for the bowl trip! I’ll spare you an entire haul, but some of my favorite gifts I got yesterday were:

  • A leopard-print fuzzy jacket
  • A custom calendar with my dog’s faces on it for every month
  • Icelandic chocolate (may or may not have eaten half the bar already)
  • Kate Spade socks
  • A liquid lipstick/liner set
  • An iPhone 11!

I won’t be setting up my iPhone 11 until after I get back from Atlanta, so when I was initially listing my favorite gifts I completely forgot about it. But I’m super excited to get it set up once I have more than a few hours to transfer all my stuff over and make sure it’s all working!

Beyond just opening gifts in the morning, we also went to church in the evening and then proceeded on to our tradition of celebrating Christmas Eve with my dad’s side of the family. They even helped me collect data for an upcoming blog post… stay tuned!

Merry Christmas again, and I’ll talk to you all again before the new year. Here comes 2020!

P.S. I actually had my sister take my #OOTD pics last night. It was very refreshing not to have to use a tripod- especially because I knew my neighbors across the street would be able to see us. Thanks, Macy!

Breaking News

When I chose my newspaper-print crop top for Thursday’s #OOTD, I knew exactly where I wanted to shoot it. Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, which sits right at the entrance to the South Oval, was my prime background because of the breaking news banner wrapped around the outside. I’m usually in more secluded spots when I take my #OOTD pictures, but this was too good of a backdrop to pass up.

This has been one of my favorite tops ever since I found it over the summer, and I always get so many compliments when I wear it. As a former journalism major (and someone still in the field of mass communication) it’s perfect for me. I’ve mostly just paired it with my black shorts, but I hope to try something different soon- keep checking my Instagram stories to see!

Top: Cropped Newspaper Print Tee – Forever 21
Belt: Loop Belt – Target
Shorts: Cotton Twill Shorts – H&M
Shoes: Grand Court Sneaker – Adidas

Also, taking pictures in front of a continuously moving banner? MUCH harder than you might think. Getting the timing right when you have to start the camera timer 10 seconds in advance is pretty difficult- shoutout to the people walking down the South Oval who saw me attempting this. I promise the end result was worth it.

Seeing Spots

Do you ever like an outfit so much that you make up excuses to leave the house so other people can see it, too? That was me with this spotty #OOTD. I had initially intended just to wear this at home on my day off, but once I had it on I knew I wanted to show it off.

So off I went, making a quick 1 mile drive off to the nearest shopping mall, where I made a beeline to the Forever 21. I mildly disliked Forever 21 throughout my entire adolescence, but I’ve been growing more fond of it lately. (Is that what inevitably happens when your 21st birthday comes around?) Either way, I ended up finding a ton of cute new clothes while I was out! I’m excited to showcase them here in the coming weeks.

Good Vibes Only

Fun fact: this is actually the first bodysuit I’ve ever owned! They’re a trend I’ve been eyeing for a while- I tuck in basically everything I wear, so a bodysuit would actually make a lot of sense in most cases- but I never could find one that I felt fit me properly and looked good. Luckily, I found this one at Uptown Austin! It fits perfectly, and I think the reminder to have “good vibes” is so cute.

I wore this version of the #OOTD out to go run errands, but then changed into jeans to go see Toy Story 4 later in the evening. (Go see it if you haven’t already. It’s adorable!) I think I actually liked the jean look better, but the denim skirt version is cute, too. They definitely have two very different vibes going on. Maybe I’ll share the details of the jeans version in a later post!

How do you wear bodysuits? Do you have any specific brands you like? I think I’m going to be fully embracing this trend, since it so closely aligns with my personal style, so I would love to hear your suggestions!

Jumping Through Hoops

I’ve been applying to internships for summer 2019 and it is such a process! It’s going to be so rewarding once I get accepted to one that’s a good fit for me, but right now I just feel like I’m jumping through so many hoops and not seeing any results. I know my hard work will pay off in the long run, though!

In other news, I’m so thankful that the worst of winter is behind us! Being able to consistently break out my cutest skirts brightens my day. I’m a huge fan of leopard print, as you may already know, so when I found this one at Uptown Cheapskate I knew I had to have it.

Dreaming of Spring (Break)

Even though today is the first day of March, in Norman the weather is still in full-on winter mode. We had an icy day that turned into an icy week, and today was the first day where driving around town seemed totally safe.

Desperate to forget the cold, I went shopping with my friend Jaycie for the spring break trip we’re both going on in two weeks. I got a ton of cute things, and I can’t wait to show y’all when the time comes!

Even though I was shopping for beach clothes, the current weather conditions dictated that I had to dress a little (or a lot) warmer than what we’ll experience in Saint Augustine. Wearing a lot of layers when you’re going different places and trying on clothes is kind of a pain, but I didn’t want to freeze, so I opted for a simple sweater/jeans/coat combo. I stuck with my Adidas sneakers so I wouldn’t have to deal with the hassle of taking boots on and off.

Coat: Brown Coat (similar)
Sweater: White Turtleneck Sweater (similar)

Hopefully the weather warms up in the next few weeks, because my shopping spree today has me so excited for spring and summer outfit possibilities! Keep checking back to see my next #OOTD!
