How To Create The Perfect Vision Board

If you saw my college apartment bedroom reveal for this school year, then you probably saw the vision board that I have mounted on the wall above my desk. I find that my vision board is a great way to keep me focused on my goals throughout the year and helps me keep the big picture in mind when I’m faced with difficult tasks or challenging work. Today, I’m going to share some tips for creating your own vision board and walk you through the process I used!

1. Decide if your board is going to be physical or virtual

My vision board is this linen bulletin board from U Brands, as I prefer my vision boards to be physical. However, you can easily follow the same steps and combine them into a virtual collage (such as for a desktop background) at the end.

2. Reflect on your ultimate goals and aspirations

Once you’ve decided how you will be presenting your finished product, it’s time to reflect on the goals and aspirations you want your vision board to represent. I wanted my board to reflect themes such as the city I want to live in, dream employers or brands I would love to work with, ideas for my dream home, etc.

3. Collect your visuals

Pinterest is my favorite avenue for actually collecting images, but any website you choose to use is fine. At this stage, it’s important to only choose images or quotes that you feel strongly drawn towards. This ensures that what you’re choosing actually represents your greatest dreams and ambitions.

4. Print and arrange your photos or Combine them into a virtual collage

Once you’re satisfied with what you’ve collected, it’s time to put it all together. Canva is a great option for virtual vision boards, but I stuck with printing mine on photo paper and arranging them by hand. Rearrange until you’re happy with how it looks, then pin them down! Once that’s done, you’re ready to hang.

I love my vision board and I’m actually a little sad I’m home for the holidays and don’t get to see it every day. It will be waiting for me when I return in the spring, though!

Group Pose Inspiration and Ideas

Have you ever had pose-block? It’s when you need a cute pose for a photo, but your mind is suddenly drawing a blank. Every cute idea you’ve ever had is suddenly escaping you, and so you resort to something completely and utterly basic.

Been there? Me too.

There’s so many cute poses for group shots out there, and I hope today’s post will help you be prepared when the time comes for your next group photoshoot. My friends and I love taking pics together (and clearly I love taking solo ones as well), so I feel qualified to show some of my favorite poses to do as a group. Hopefully these ideas will help during your next case of paralyzing pose-block!

1. group hug

This is a classic one. While sitting (or standing), wrap your arms around the center people like you love each other. This pose makes for a really wholesome shot every time!

2. Staggered step sitting

If you’re blessed with a cute set of steps to take pictures on… utilize them! Place different members of your group at different heights for visual variation and interest.

3. LEan against a rail

I like railings in pictures because it easily gives people something to do with their hands. This particular railing allowed for full-body and close-up shots, so this pose is super versatile!

4. Candid laughter

We took our candid laughing shot sitting staggered on the steps, but this pose works no matter where you are sitting or standing! Candid laughter (real or faked) is super cute and will make it look like you’re having the absolute best time. Definitely Instagram-worthy moments!

5. Lap lay

This is a fun pose for groups of four or more. Nominate your most attention-hungry friend (or yourself!) to lay across the laps of the rest of the group. Getting into position can lead to some fun candids, too.

6. crazy limbs

Wanting a silly one? This pose came to be by me yelling “everyone do something crazy with your limbs!” This gets everyone laughing and completing the challenge to various degrees of commitment. Megan won this round, for sure.

7. family photo

Similar to the staggered step sitting, a bench can provide varying degrees of visual interest. We felt like this one looked like a family Christmas card photo (or for me, a sorority big-little reveal photo.)

8. College Hand Signs

If your college has hand signs, this is an easy one! My high school friends and I are split between 3 different colleges, so this is one of our go-tos whenever we are short on pose ideas. It’s always super cute and spirited.

9. unnecessarily dramatic

This is one of our favs just because it’s such a different vibe than all the other ones we’ve taken. For maximum dramatic effect, everyone spread out and look in a different direction. Are you intimidated yet?

I hope these 9 ideas help you next time you’re in a group photo-taking rut! I love taking pics with my friends whenever we’re all in town together, which doesn’t happen much anymore.

DIY Beaded Sunglasses Tutorial

I’ve always had a thing for sunglasses. From sixth to eighth grade, I wore sunglasses on my head like a headband every day. (No seriously. Every day.) While I eventually gave that look up, my love for a cute pair of shades has always remained.

Something else I’ve always liked is crafting. Getting to be creative and use my talents to create cute DIYs is something I’ve always loved. But despite years of love for both a sunnies and crafting, I’ve never thought to put them together until now. I’m in love with the outcome, and today I’m going to share my process with you (and give you some ideas to use instead!) All my supplies I used will be linked, but feel free to get creative and use other things!

Here’s a fun fact before we begin: It took me so long to decide what phrase to put on my glasses. At the very last possible second (AKA: as I was arranging the beads to spell out something else) “LA VIE EN ROSE” hit me. I thought it was so perfect, because it’s a French idiom that directly translates to “life in pink,” or indirectly to the English idiom “to see life through rose-colored glasses,” or “having a positive outlook on life.” So perfect for rose gold glasses!

DIY Beaded Sunglasses Tutorial

Supplies:

  • Plain pair of sunglasses
  • Alphabet beads
  • Other embellishments

Tutorial:

  1. Preheat your hot glue gun. It will take about 5 minutes to heat up completely, so use that time to decide on what phrase you want to spell out. Depending on the size of your sunglasses, aim for no more than 7 letters on each side.
  2. Work from the outside in. I glued my flowers down first, and worked from there. When gluing down the letters on the right side, double check which letter you’re gluing down since you’ll be spelling backwards.
  3. When you get to a space in your phrase, put a single jewel or other embellishment in its place.
  4. When you run out of letters, continue putting jewels down until you get to the bridge of the nose.
  5. Once the inside is done, go back to the outside and finish putting jewels down either side.
  6. Let your new sunnies cool! Once the hot glue has totally dried, go back and get rid of all the hot glue “hairs.” (Don’t know what I’m referring to? You will once you get to this step.)
  7. Enjoy your newly decked out shades!
