Yesterday was windy and in the 80s, but today is cold and in the 40s. It’s mid-April, so this sudden temperature drop is pretty annoying, but I also really appreciate getting one last chance to wear some of my colder-weather pieces. I love turtlenecks, and although I have some short-sleeve and no-sleeve ones that are more appropriate for spring and summer, I feel like a long-sleeved turtleneck should be reserved for colder weather.
So here’s today’s #OOTD! The yellow turtleneck is kinda cropped and a little hard to tuck into things, but I made it work with the black belt which helps keep it in place. I think the black belt helps tie in the black from my riding boots, too.
Yesterday, I had a 10 page research paper due for my US-Latin American Relations class. I usually don’t mind writing papers, especially when I get to choose the subject matter, but for some reason I put that monstrosity of a research paper off until 10 hours before the due date. Thanks to some study tunes, the focused vibe of the Bizzell Memorial Library, and lots of coffee, I got it done with an hour and a half to spare. It was a real relief, for sure.
Since I was still feeling strained from all the brain exertion I put forth yesterday, I made sure to keep to a more laid-back #OOTD today to help me recover. It was a little toasty in my jeans, but comfy nonetheless!
The weather is getting to be in the 80s consistently and I am so excited! It’s about time to pack up my winter gear and bring the summer wardrobe back out full-time. Keep checking back to see my next #OOTD!
Today, I’m reviewing Neighborhood JAM, a breakfast and lunch restaurant in Norman, Oklahoma! My freshman year roommate Lexi was in town this weekend, so we decided to go to brunch and catch up. Unfortunately, it was also Mom’s Weekend at OU, which means we had to fight through crowds of mother/daughter duos to get a table. Luckily, Neighborhood JAM has a feature where you can get on their waiting list through the Yelp app. I got us in their virtual waiting list at 9 a.m. and went on my way, getting ready for our brunch date.
Despite getting in line early (and planning to arrive at 11 a.m.), it was 11:40 before we got seated. Since Lexi recently turned 21 (!!!!) I bought us mimosas to celebrate, and they were so good.
Despite being incredibly crowded, the service was pretty fast. I ordered “The Good Ol’ Boy,” which comes with eggs, a biscuit, hashbrowns, and your choice of meat. It was so good (especially since it was past noon when it arrived and I hadn’t eaten anything this morning.)
I loved getting to spend the afternoon with my old roomie and catch up, and this was such a great atmosphere for it! But if you’re craving their breakfast food, I highly recommend getting in line on the Yelp app first. Despite the delay, we would’ve been waiting for an additional three hours if we hadn’t gotten on the wait list at 9 a.m.
Keep checking back to see what restaurant I review next!
This #OOTD is actually from a few days ago, but I never got around to posting it with all the Third Degree craziness!
I definitely didn’t need a belt to keep these denim shorts up, but I think that it adds such a cute touch anyways. I’m obsessed with comfy-casual outfits, perfect for everything from going to class, to running errands, to grabbing lunch with a friend. I love the contrast of the black shirt and belt with the light-wash shorts!
The end of the semester is getting crazy, but I’m trying to keep posting as regularly as I can! Creating different looks and sharing them with y’all brings me so much joy and I love taking time out of my day to write these #OOTD entries.
Today’s post is a little different! I am part of a sorority called Tau Beta Sigma. Last night we had our Third Degree, or our last phase of initiation before our membership candidates become active sisters. There’s a lot I can’t tell you (rituals are secret), but there’s some I can, as well! So beyond the rituals, here’s my favorite parts of last night.
Third Degree is heavily joint with our brother chapter, Kappa Kappa Psi. We are both the Delta chapters, meaning we were the fourth chapters in the nation for each of our respective organizations to become active. One part of Third Degree that is joint with KKY is the membership candidate skits. Once our rituals are over, this is a great way for the MCs to have fun and share their class’ personality with the actives a little more.
After skits, we had our final joint ritual in Sharp concert hall. I love joint rituals because I get to spend time with my KKY brothers that I don’t see as much. When that was over, it was time for photos! I’m a grand-big this year (AKA: my littles took littles this year) so I got a picture with me and my family. I love them all and they make me so happy!
I’m the TBS historian, so I got to take a giant group photo of both chapters at the very end! We’re pretty large, and I had to go up several rows of seats into the concert hall to get everyone in the shot. I’ve been TBS historian for 2 years and I’m running for a different officer position for next year, so I’m very sad that my time as historian is over. I love taking pictures of my sisters and brothers.
The Delta chapters of TBS and KKY have my whole heart. I can’t wait to make even more memories with them for my senior year. Congratualtions Delta Zetas and Zeta Kappas, you’re active sisters and brothers!
I’ve been applying to internships for summer 2019 and it is such a process! It’s going to be so rewarding once I get accepted to one that’s a good fit for me, but right now I just feel like I’m jumping through so many hoops and not seeing any results. I know my hard work will pay off in the long run, though!
In other news, I’m so thankful that the worst of winter is behind us! Being able to consistently break out my cutest skirts brightens my day. I’m a huge fan of leopard print, as you may already know, so when I found this one at Uptown Cheapskate I knew I had to have it.
I love any excuse I can get to wear my leather jacket because it makes me feel like Sandy from Grease! I recreated her final scene all-black outfit for Halloween this year, but that’s not really a look I consider modern or practical for my daily life. So when I’m wanting to channel some Pink Ladies energy, this is typically the #OOTD I lean towards. This is about as edgy as I’ll go most days!
On my way back from Austin this weekend, Kendall and I decided to stop at Magnolia Market in Waco since neither of us had ever been! I watched Fixer Upper religiously when it was on Netflix a few years ago and have been missing it recently, so this stop was just what I needed.
Kendall broke out her DSLR camera for the second time that trip and we had a great time taking pictures in front of all the instagrammable spots. Magnolia sure is aesthetically pleasing!
It was cold and blustery that day, too, so we didn’t stay long. We just wanted to get a good idea of what Magnolia was all about, and we definitely did!
Two of my best friends go to school at Baylor, so I’m sure I’ll be back at Magnolia with the two of them at some point. Overall, it was a really cute place to walk around and soak up the “fixer upper” vibe!
