April Showers Bring May Flowers

The meteorologists were not lying… the rain is definitely here. I appreciate that the rainy weather is keeping temperatures in the low 70s, but it’s so hard to dress when you’re trying to keep your feet dry but also be seasonally appropriate!

I wear my BLONDO boots because they’re cute and also waterproof, but I don’t feel like they scream “spring,” especially since they’re made of suede. If anyone has spring shoe options that are cute but will also keep my feet dry, let me know! I feel like that would be a solid investment as we get into Oklahoma’s rainy season.

I actually had leggings on this morning instead of jeans, but couldn’t shake the feeling that I was dressing too casually for class. For other people there may be no such thing, but for me there definitely is. I try to keep my leggings reserved for working out, lounging, and traveling almost exclusively.

Check back soon to see my next #OOTD!

Life’s a Picnic

When I was home in Frisco this weekend, I went on a shopping spree at Uptown Cheapskate to refresh my spring wardrobe! I needed some new spring clothes, and Uptown is my favorite place. I love clothes but not spending a lot on them, so I always feel very satisfied when I can leave Uptown with 5 things for about $50.

It’s supposed to rain for the next 2 weeks (I am so sad!) so I knew I needed to wear this outfit today while the weather was still nice! The pink gingham reminds me of a picnic, perfect for a beautiful spring day. This is actually one of the preppier pieces I own, especially paired with the Kendra Scott earrings.

Top: Sophie Peplum Tank Top – Lauren James
Jeans: Mid-Rise Rockstar Super Skinny Jeans – Old Navy

I hope it doesn’t actually rain for the next 2 weeks. It’s dead week/finals week and I have some cute spring #OOTDs to share! But sandals and rain don’t mix…

Jess Glynne in Concert

Last night I got to have the amazing experience of seeing Jess Glynne live in concert! She’s been my favorite artist for about a year now, so I was super excited when my mom bought me these tickets for Christmas.

It was at The Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum. I had never been before, but it was a really cool venue! I didn’t realize it was a bar as well, and that made me really glad that I brought my ID along. I got an alcoholic cucumber lemonade, and if you’re wondering what that tastes like, it’s exactly what you would imagine- cucumber, lemonade, and vodka. It sounds a little weird, but it was so good!

I went to the concert with my mom and we had a great time! There was a little bit of a wait between the opening act and when Jess came out, but since I had my drink it was still a good time. I had never been to a concert where it was all general admission, so that was an experience! I’m used to having my assigned seat at a venue, so having to defend my standing space so I could continue to see the stage was kind of a lot. I think I did pretty good job, though!

By the time Jess Glynne came out on stage, I was ready. The show was so good- she sounds exactly the same live as she does on her albums! I got to hear all my old favorites and some new releases as well. I’m so glad I got the experience of seeing my favorite artist in concert at a fairly small venue, it was such a great night!

Like an Oreo

It was super rainy this morning, but luckily I made it to my first class before the rain started! I didn’t feel like wearing rain boots since it was going to be so humid, so I opted for leather sneakers instead. I figured that as long as I timed the rain showers right, they would at least help my feet navigate the puddles and make it through relatively unscathed.

I love my overalls; they’re transitioning into the warmer months pretty easily! This is my first time pairing them with a short-sleeve shirt and I love the way this look came together, although the complete black and white combo did have me feeling vaguely like an Oreo cookie.

This will probably be the last super busy week of my semester, and I’m really excited! I can’t wait for the semester to be over. I love my classes, but sometimes enough is enough. I’m feeling ready to move onto next semester.

Keep checking back to see my next #OOTD!

Resting Beach Face

This Easter weekend, my family decided to travel down to Corpus Christi and visit my sister! I flew in last night and spent the evening walking around down by the pier and going out to dinner. Last night’s sunset was spectacular, too!

Today is our only full day together in Corpus, so we decided to spend the majority of it at the beach. We spent a few hours in the late morning/early afternoon just laying out and enjoying the nice weather. I also flew some kites with my sister. They were very small and cute- perfect for novice kite-fliers like us.

We also have one of our dogs, Chloe, with us on this trip! She loves the beach because she just gets to lay around and chill out. I can’t say she likes going in the water very much, though.

We got sandwiches for lunch, and then headed out to our second activity of the day: we rented a golf cart and got to drive it around on the beach and through the residential neighborhoods. I had a great time, but I forgot to reapply sunblock, so my knees got a little burnt. Oops!

After our golf cart ride, my sister and I decided to go for a swim in the pool right outside our condo! I haven’t actually been swimming in a while (I don’t consider lounging in the hot tub during spring break “swimming”) so it was extra fun for me. I was a competitive swimmer for 10 years and have really missed being in the water.

My flight out tomorrow is at noon, and I’ll be so sad to leave! It’s almost finals week, so I would much rather stay here. I guess the pool at my apartment complex will have to suffice.

Queen of Army Green

I’m traveling today, so today’s #OOTD post is actually yesterday’s! It was a little chilly in the morning but I knew it would warm up later in the day, so I wanted something with layers that could transition easily from morning to afternoon.

I love my black dress (I’ve featured several outfits with it before,) but something I don’t like about it as much is the lack of definition it gives me at the waist. By tying a jacket around, it allows me to cinch the fabric in at the waist area and give my look the definition it needs!

Jacket: Army Green Jacket (similar)
Dress: Slub-Knit Tee Dress – Old Navy

I’m in my layover in Houston right now, headed to Corpus Christi for Easter weekend! I am so excited to see my family (and one of my dogs) and spend time with them through Sunday. I can’t wait to share our Saturday beach adventures with y’all, so check back for those!

My Go-To Starbucks Drinks

I’m a morning person by nature, so I wouldn’t say I need coffee to function. But every morning, without fail, I make my breakfast that always includes an iced coffee from my roommate’s Keurig machine. When I’m wanting to treat myself (or just needing an extra boost a caffeine,) I hit up a campus Starbucks on my way to class.

Full disclaimer: I drink coffee for the taste, which means that my drinks need to taste like 80% sugar and 20% coffee. Black coffee or dark roasts are not my thing, so when you notice that my favorite drinks all stray from the genre of “traditional” coffee, that’s why.

1. Iced Caramel Macchiato

I am definitely an iced coffee type of girl. Unless the temperature outside dips below 20, you’ll probably only see me with an iced coffee in hand. My go-to drink at Starbucks is an iced caramel macchiato, since the milk and caramel sauce disguise the espresso when mixed properly. If I’m going to be up late studying at the library, this is usually the drink I pick.

This Starbucks x Ariana Grande collab had me skeptical at first, but I quickly got addicted to these fluffy beverages once I tried one for the first time. (Yep, I said fluffy.) The iced caramel cloud macchiato is similar to a regular iced caramel macchiato, except it comes with layers of foam instead of milk. Personally, I think the foam is the best part and would easily order a whole cup of it if I thought I could escape without judgement from the baristas.

3. caramel frappuccino

This was my first introduction to coffee, so it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. When I was in middle school, the “cool” thing to do on a Friday night was to go to the mall with your friends. It was during one of those escapades where I tried a caramel frappuccino for the first time. To this day, I’ll still order a caramel frappuccino if I’m on campus and my sweet tooth decides to show up in full force.

4. vanilla bean frappuccino

I warned y’all, I don’t actually like the taste of coffee all that much, and this one is a perfect example of that. The vanilla bean frappuccino doesn’t actually contain coffee, so I like to order this one when I want a sweet treat without the caffeine. It’s also something I discovered in my pre-teen years, so it’s a great nostalgia bomb as well!

Remember how I said I was an iced coffee gal? Well, on the rare occasion where it dips below 20 degrees, the hot caramel macchiato is my drink of choice. Like its iced counterpart, it also masks the espresso taste very well, which I greatly appreciate. If I’m wanting a caffeinated beverage before making a walk across OU’s freezing campus, I think about the well being of my fingers and opt for a hot drink instead.

In other news, this is my 50th post on Selfies & OOTDs! That’s crazy to me because I feel like I started this blog not that long ago. Thanks for reading, and I can’t wait to keep sharing my fashion and lifestyle content with y’all!

I’ve been wanting to try out this look for a while, but haven’t had a chance until today! It was still a little windy, but since rain and a cold front are coming through tomorrow I figured it was now or never for this #OOTD. I’m so glad I took the chance!

By now, you all know what a huge fan I am of turtleneck and mock-neck shirts. I found this forest green one while thrift shopping in St. Augustine and was so excited to find a mock-neck item that I continue to wear into spring and summer (most of my other turtleneck items are long-sleeved or sweaters.)

Scrunchie: Black Scrunchie – Walmart
Top: Mock-neck Tank Top (similar)

Overall, this outfit was a little chilly with the wind, but otherwise perfect! Can’t wait to pair this mock-neck tank with some other spring clothing items soon. Stay tuned!

Stay Groovy

I am so excited to share today’s #OOTD with y’all! I have a feeling it’s going to become a regular in my wardrobe because it is so easy, versatile, and comfortable. It also vaguely makes me feel like I’m from the 70s, which is a time period that I love style-wise!

If you pay close attention to what I wear during my lifestyle posts, you may recognize this one from when I went biking in St. Augustine. I had my hair up in a high pony to keep my hair from flying in my face, and wore some gold hoops instead of a zodiac necklace, but other than that it’s pretty similar! I got these jeans when we went thrifting in St. Augustine earlier in the week, and wearing them makes me nostalgic for that trip. I can’t wait for summer!

Shirt: White Button-Up (similar)
Necklace: Scorpio Pendant Necklace – J. Crew
Belt: Loop Belt – Target

I love these jeans and hope to wear them with some more items soon as the weather continues to warm up! Stay tuned, because I’ll be posting another #OOTD soon.

Born With Good Jeans

Before I get into today’s #OOTD details, I just wanted to share some huge personal news I got on Friday! Back in February, I applied to be a part of Gaylord’s 4+1 Program, where, if accepted, I would be able to start graduate-level course work for my senior year, finish up my bachelor’s degree (in May 2020,) and then graduate with my master’s degree in May 2021. As you may have guessed, on Friday I got the news that I had been accepted and will be starting in the 4+1 Program this fall! I am elated, to say the least, and am so ready to start with my graduate courses in August. Okay, now that I got that out of the way, on to today’s #OOTD…

I had a concert band “dress rehearsal” (AKA just an extra weekend rehearsal) today, so I wanted to make sure I would be comfy when I was sitting and playing for two hours. I opted for a traditional-denim-on-black-denim ensemble. It’s a similar vibe to an outfit I wore a few weeks ago, although that one was paired with a black dress instead!

Jacket: Cropped Denim Jacket (similar)
Tank Top: Black Rib-Knit Tank – Old Navy
Belt: Loop Belt – Target
Jeans: Mid-Rise Rockstar Super Skinny Jeans – Old Navy
Shoes: Advantage Sneaker – Adidas

Anyways, I’m still kind of in shock over my grad school acceptance! I knew I had the grades and got great rec letters, but it’s still so cool to see my hard work pay off so tangibly. If you’re interested in what I’m doing as a public relations student, you can check out my professional portfolio online at www.kaylamccullough.com.

I’ll be back with a new #OOTD soon, so check back for that!
